Alexa Molynuex
Registered Art Psychotherapist & Supervisor
I often work with people during their lowest and most difficult times, and I feel a huge sense of privilege to be able to be a part of their journey and recovery. Establishing trust and a sense of safety are the foundations of my work. My approach is psychodynamic, which means I am interested in conscious and unconscious processes emerging within the session. These processes can be reflected upon and can become a helpful way to deepen understanding of certain behaviours, emotions, responses, and relationships. My approach is also non-directive, so I will work with whatever the client brings to the session that day, working at their own pace with no judgement or agenda.
I qualified as an art psychotherapist in 2012 (MA) and have since worked as an art therapist in private practice and in schools. Working in education has provided me with a vast range of experience including; working with school staff wanting to access therapy for their own wellbeing needs, supporting families through difficult times (often involving layers of trauma), helping parents and carers better understand their child's needs and complex behaviours, and helping children and young people explore their thoughts and feelings and develop coping strategies so they can thrive.
I have developed a special interest and completed further training in the following areas:
-
Dyadic Art Psychotherapy Levels 1 & 2
-
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) Level 1
-
Theraplay Level 1
-
Supervision
-
Mindfulness Based Approaches to Art Therapy
-
Introduction to Internal Family Systems (IFS)
-
Trauma Informed Practice
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and am a full member of The British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT).
As part of my therapeutic practice I undergo regular clinical supervision. Clinical supervision is a requirement of our regulatory bodies and is an essential part of working therapeutically with clients.
I have an enhanced DBS (police and criminal record) check, and have professional indemnity insurance. I am also trained at manager's level in safeguarding and child protection procedures.
